It’s that time again in the year where Ever Star Industries employees are presented with the prestigious Long Service Awards.
No matter how long your length of service, all our staff are essential to us, however it’s still important to take a moment to recognise those employees that have been with us for many years and in some cases very many years and to take the opportunity to thank them for all their hard work, loyalty, dedication and contribution to the success of Ever Star Industries over their years with us.
Bob Wang, CEO said: “I’m always pleased to hear stories about the long service of Ever Star Industries staff and am delighted to present our employees who achieved this milestone with their long service awards. These staff have demonstrated their dedication and loyalty to our company year after year. I speak for all of us here at Ever Star Industries when I say that I am looking forward to many more years of working with these staff!”
He also urged the team not to shy away from greatness, excellence and continuous improvement, which are the foundation for long-service awards, which ensure organisational sustainability.
During the award ceremony, Alan Parry, General Manager: HR & Admin said, “We are proud of you, we are inspired by you, and we are forever in gratitude to you for your service. It always sounds a bit cheesy that old saying that a business is only as good as the people who work in it but it’s true and the reason why all these years later ESI is still in business and going strong.”‘
This year we have decided to do something a little different and for the benefit of our newer staff. We asked our recipients a few “getting to know you” questions, nothing serious but just to give a little insight into the characters of those staff receiving awards this year.

Garreth joined the company when it still belonged to Super Group in late January 2002, where he spent a few years as yard supervisor. When Super Group was sold, and Ever Star Industries was formed in 2010, he moved over. During his 15 years, Garreth has gone from assembling trucks, selling and servicing them, to supervising the assembling and processing of the trucks. The experience Garreth gained in dealing with customers during that time saw him move into the role of Retail Service Centre Manager, based at the plant in Pietermaritzburg. The highlight of his 15-year career with ESI is qualifying as a diesel mechanic. He has always proved to be one of our most reliable and hardworking employees and for many years, and is a highly valued member in our company. Garreth admits having a great workforce make the days’ worth it, and he is still learning new things every day.
Yuill joined us in June 2007 as a storeman in the SKD division at the assembly plant. A few years ago, he decided to take up a new challenge. He applied for health and safety training through NOSA 2013, and later became the Health and Safety Officer. Yuill has always proved to be one of our most reliable and hardworking employees and is a highly valued member of our Health and Safety committee. He is always striving for improvements. As he says, ‘the best part of the job is when there are no injuries and our staff go home safely to their families.’
Mildred a.k.a Millie, joined us in 2007 as a cleaner and currently holds the same position. She is based at the Centurion office. She performs a combination of daily tasks with the greatest of pride. Millie is no doubt a hardworking, conscientious and reliable individual.
Paul joined the company during its reign with Super Group in January 2007. He originally started as a buyer/parts controller. Upon the sale of Super Group, he moved over to ESI. Paul was always keen to take on more challenges and responsibility, and with the knowledge he had gained through working in aftersales he was later promoted to National Parts Manager. His excellent parts knowledge, together with a helpful and flexible approach to work, has also assisted his warehousing staff develop in their positions. Paul stays motivated knowing that his job is directly related to ensure customers vehicle uptime, by receiving their parts timeously.
Joseph joined the assembly plant team in 2007. He gained much experience and works efficiently. Over the years he showed just how versatile he was and very quickly became a key member of our assembly team.
Dumisani joined us as a painter in April 2006. He now works on the assembly line as a fitter. Dumisani is what can only be described as an old school tradesman who takes the greatest of pride in all the work he does.
Lilian started at the assembly plant in May 2007 as a fitter and is currently in the same role. She forms part of the quality check on the cabs to make sure there are no defects before it gets fitted. She is one of our longest serving fitters and has occasionally assisted in other areas of support.
In August 2007, Freedom joined the company as an assembler at the plant, while still under Super Group. He did everything from preparation of materials through to welding and painting. Over the years Freedom completed basic courses in Internal Quality Auditor Training and ISO 9001 : 2015 which quickly improved his skills in his area. He now holds the position as Quality Control (Technical Assistant) and the esteemed ESI Highflyer Award 2016. Freedom is a very quiet, hardworking and reliable guy who is always keen to get involved in new projects.
Lelani joined us in November 2007. She had previously worked as a parts administrator at our office in Jet Park, Johannesburg, before taking up the SKD Admin position at the Pietermaritzburg offices end 2008. At ESI she very quickly learnt all about the various stock order processes and eventually became our key ‘goods in’ person. Lelani’s husband Keegan is also employed at ESI in the parts department.
Andy is currently ESI’s Senior Head of Finance. He moved over from Super Group and joined ESI in 2007. Over the years Andy has seen the company go through good years and some very difficult years and at times his job has been extremely demanding and challenging.
His role means keeping an eye on the performance/profitability and cashflow of the business. He is protector of the company’s finances but also a driving force behind the strategic direction of the company. Many that know him would say ‘he wears his heart on his sleeve’ – certainly he is one of our most caring and considerate employees in the company. He has always been passionate about both his job and the people who work for him and is probably the member of staff who epitomises the statement ‘going the extra mile’
In March 2007 Stanley joined our team at the assembly plant. He was employed as a paint shop supervisor & currently in the same position. Over the years Stanley has accumulated a vast amount of knowledge and skills whilst working on an ever-changing product range. He also has a son currently employed at the plant on the assembly line. Stanley is a fun-loving person and starts off his mornings in high spirits by always sharing a joke. He is one of our valued team members on the line.
